Instead of the braid shape, follow these directions for forming Challah (KHAH-luh) into a star shape

1 package active dry yeast 3/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F) 3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided 1/4 cup granulated sugar 1 egg 1 eg

Let stand until bubbly (about 5 minutes)

Stir in 1 1/4 cups of the flour, the sugar, egg, egg white, oil, salt, and saffron, if desired

Beat with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly
