I have a slightly similar one that uses Tabasco sauce instead of the cayenne pepper

However, the combination of the cayenne pepper and garlic cloves make this recipe more than just a cut above what I have been using

As you mentioned, this dish has a slight kick, but it wasn't so strong that my kids wouldn't eat it

The only thing that I did differently was use freshly grated parmesan cheese
