Stick all cloves into whole onion

Cut apples in quarters

Put chopped cabbage, onion, apples, salt and vinegar in pan

Add enough water to cover cabbage

Cook, covered, for 45 minutes

Remove onion and apple and drain water

Fry bacon crisp, then crumble
